Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering Corporation (Ameco) was established on August 1st 1989. It is a joint venture between Air China Limited (60%) and Lufthansa German Airlines (40%).
On June 1st 2015, by restructuring the shareholdings in Ameco, Air China and Lufthansa integrated the MRO resources in former Ameco and former Air China Technics (ACT) to establish new Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering Corporation (New Ameco) that is still a joint venture between Air China and Lufthansa, with Air China holding 75% and Lufthansa holding 25%.
Headquartered in Beijing, New Ameco has set up four Business Units of Beijing Base, North of China Line Center, Chengdu Branch, Southwest Line Center, 17 Operation and Management Support Divisions, as well as line maintenance Branches in Chongqing, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Hohhot, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guiyang, Guangzhou and Wenzhou.
New Ameco provides airlines with Fleets Total Care, as well as line maintenance, aircraft overhaul and painting, ARC overhaul, engine overhaul, APU overhaul, component overhaul, landing gear overhaul, business jet completion and maintenance, engineering and assets technology services, education and training services, calibration and testing services. New Ameco possesses maintenance licenses authorized by CAAC, FAA, EASA and almost 30 countries or regions, as well as a Designated Modification Design Organization Representative (DMDOR) authorized by CAAC. It has more than 200 maintenance stations at home and abroad, forming a large maintenance network worldwide.
New Ameco’s hangars and maintenance facilities are mainly located in Beijing and Chengdu. In Beijing Capital International Airport, it operates two four-bay hangars, capable of accommodating respectively four Airbus A380 aircraft for maintenance at the same time and four Boeing 747 aircraft for overhaul simultaneously, together with a one-bay hangar for Boeing 747’s overhaul and painting. The above-mentioned hangars suffice all the maintenance layover requirement of various main-route-operated aircraft types in the market at present. New Ameco is also running a hangar for business jets services in Beijing. In Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, New Ameco has a three-bay hangar for Boeing 757’s overhaul, a combined hangar of three-bay for Airbus A321’s overhaul and one-bay for Airbus A330’s overhaul and painting, as well as a two-bay hangar for Airbus A330’s maintenance, meeting the layover requirement of all maintenance levels on all aircraft up to Airbus A330. Moreover, New Ameco also has a hangar respectively in Chongqing, Hangzhou, Tianjin and Hohhot to meet the maintenance layover requirement of Boeing 737NG series and Airbus A320 series.
New Ameco employs about 11,000 employees with a strong league of highly dedicated and technically qualified engineers. In addition to securing its shareholder Air China’s entire fleet operation, it offers services to more than hundred domestic and international carriers. The company eyes huge importance to scientific and technological innovation with more than a hundred technological research and development projects awarded by the state or China’s civil aviation authority, filling in a lot of gaps in China’s civil aviation technology.
In the future, New Ameco will start up its long-term strategic development plan, with an effective grip to integrate MRO resources and advance MRO section to its structural optimum, so as to actualize professionalized and industrialized development.
